Company Information

Company Name:  Child Life Foundation
Company Description:
It is a fact that very large numbers of sick children of very low income parents are brought every day to the pediatric emergency units of government hospitals in Pakistan as these are easily accessible and provide free treatment and medicine. However, these pediatric units are in a very sad condition. The number of beds and trained staff are insufficient. The oxygen system essential to saving lives is usually not adequate. Care providers and doctors try to treat children in life threatening situations but are faced with constant shortages of necessary life saving medicines and supplies. rnrnChildlife Foundation was, therefore, born of the idea to respond to the need for proper pediatric emergency care and partner with Government hospitals. The most practical and the quickest way to make an impact was to facilitate the larger government pediatric emergency units and manage them as a public/ private initiative. This would be done by completely renovating these run down emergency units so they become comfortable areas for healing. Childlife saw the need to provide essential oxygen systems and medical monitors, free medicines on 24 hour basis and improving the human resources to provide immediate care to save lives and to reduce suffering for those children who were not at imminent risk. rnrnChildlife's successful collaboration at the pediatric unit at Civil Hospital, Karachi since November 2011 has lead to the permission for a similar arrangement at the pediatric emergency unit of "National Institute of Child Health" (adjacent to Jinnah Hospital), Karachi. These are the two largest pediatric emergency units in Pakistan. Childlife aspires that by early 2013 more than 700 children per day which translates to over 250,000 children per annum will benefit by these two initiatives which will be providing the highest quality medical care in a comfortable and hygienic working area. rnrnChildlife further aims to help children who require immediate medical attention by constructing well provided urgent care facilities in all 18 different districts of Karachi. The aim is to make emergency care available at your doorstep as well as to provide immediate access. These units will have good medical staff and adequate supplies of life saving medicines and essentials. Those children who come to these centers in very serious condition will be resuscitated and others with lesser problems will be given appropriate medical treatment. Special arrangements will be made for those children who require further attention by transporting them to Childlife managed main emergency rooms in the larger hospital through our established ambulance service. rnrnChildlife expects to bring a paradigm shift in the working of other pediatric emergency centres through these partnering relationships. Human resource development and regular workshops to train pediatric medical and technical staff will cater to Childlife's own requirement of staffing and also be beneficial to the community at large.
