Travel Requirements:  90% Travel with the Bus to different schools in the designated areas of the location specified above / Extensive Intercity travel with Mobile Bus Library

 

Program Background Summary: USAID funded Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) is a USAID funded project to improve the quality of reading in public schools by reaching 1.3 million Grade 1 and 2 students across 7 regions/provinces of Pakistan. This goal will be supported by the mutually-reinforcing components of teacher education and professional development (PD), systems reform, and civil society engagement.

Job Overview/Summary

Under the Mobile Bus Library Program, PRP has provided mobile bus library services to selected locations/schools of Sindh and Islamabad. The objective of the mobile bus libraries includes access of students to reading material and implementation of programmatic activities. In connection to this, PRP is initiating a new MBL program for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in which selected schools and communities will be provided with reading facilities for early grade students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To drive, operate and park mobile library vehicle in accordance with appropriate road traffic regulations
  • Check vehicle daily to ensure that the vehicle is maintained in good condition; perform minor and routine maintenance on assigned vehicle; identify and report maintenance problems to the Logistics Officer and MBL Facilitator, as required
  • To maintain acceptable standards of cleanliness of the vehicle, both inside and out
  • Undertake any tasks assigned by the MBL Facilitator required to effectively deliver mobile library program
  • Drive the mobile library vehicle to identified schools in Peshawar as per the approved MBL schedule
  • Ensure the safety of MBL Facilitator and books through safe driving practices, including but not limited to:
  • Using a seat belt and reminding MBL Facilitator to use seat belts.
  • Driving within speed limits and in accordance with traffic regulations.
  • Driving defensively and courteously.
  • Ensure prompt reporting to supervisor of any damage or repair needed to the assigned vehicle/maintaining of accident reports and informing the supervisor about any such incident
  • Assist MBL Facilitator in day to day management of mobile library program
  • Maintaining & submission of vehicle maintenance reports on monthly basis
  • Updating the vehicle log register
  • Run errands, as directed
  • Participate in professional training and development activities, as needed or requested
  • Perform other duties, as needed or requested

Job Requirements:

Education:                         

  • Basic education, preferably up to Matriculation

Work Experiences:        

  • 2-3 years’ work experience
  • Previous experience of working in an international setting is preferable

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Valid HTV drivers' license

Language and Computer Skills:

  • Basic English language skills – Fluency in Urdu and Pashto is mandatory
